As winter sits heavily on the midwest, we start to dream of spring. We know that the cold, ice, and snow are part of the seasonal cycle of new growth, bloom, harvest, and rest; but the icy cold winds, dark days, and frigid temperatures make it tough to bear sometimes.
It can be tempting to jump right into planning for warmer days as soon as the Christmas lights are turned off and Auld Lang Syne is sung on January first, but before diving straight into the future, it’s a good idea to take stock of what we’ve learned from our past.
Taking time for reflection is part of how we also enjoy the present and move forward into what is next, when the time is right. There are lessons to be learned from looking back. Lessons that may have been too big, or that we were too close to see in the moment that they happened. Intentional reflection is like stepping back to look at a painting and noticing that what was blurry and flawed up close, is actually a masterpiece when seen from some distance.
As Jess and I sat together dreaming and working on what we wanted to create with the podcast this season, there were many ideas and also many questions. What direction did we want to go? What was working that needed to be left alone? What did we need to change to improve and grow? We found many answers in reflection.
We not only reflected on our creative project, but we honored reflection within ourselves. We are different people than we were just a calendar year ago. We have had a whole year of experiences and challenges; highs and lows that have shaped us both personally and professionally.
In our first podcast episode of Counselors & Coffee, Season 2, you will hear us discuss moving into new seasons of life, loss, how we are growing in our own lives, and what we are most excited about. We hope that you’ll give it a listen, and that our conversation might invite you into your own reflection as well. What lessons have you learned? How have you grown? What new insights, qualities, or abilities do you have now, that you didn’t before? What are you most excited about?
We hope you’ll join us in this new season at Wholehearted Hub, as we grow forward together!
