Finding “Balance” in a Healthy Lifestyle

It can be difficult to feel like you “have it all” while trying to incorporate positive changes to achieve a healthier lifestyle. No one has it all. It can be challenging to eat healthy, exercise, and get the right amount of rest on busy days, with sick kids, a stressful day at work, a negative relationship, etc.. These can push us back as we strive towards our goals but here are some tools we can use to help find “balance” (whatever that may look like for YOU) each day.

1. Prioritize.

  • Are you trying to eat more mindfully? Establish a meal plan to allow for less chaos at the end of the day! Try meal prepping a few breakfasts and/or snacks to get going with healthy basics to start your day!

  • Exercise: Establish a routine. Same time, however many days per week… Get. It. Done. Find what times and the type of exercise you enjoy and stick with it! If you need accountability, we always love new members with WholeHearted Wellness! (visit our Wellness tab above)

  • Healthy Sleep/Stress Reduction: Create a strict bedtime routine (my previous blog covers amazing ways to get more restful sleep). Aim for 6-8 hours of sleep each night to feel rejuvenated and ready to conquer the next day!

2. Incorporate Loved Ones.

  • Healthy Eating: Have your children/partner help cook, prepare and plan meals!

  • Exercise: Take a walk with the dog/family/or a friend!

  • Sleep/stress: Plan events with friends earlier in the evening/day (Think of a morning coffee date with a walk and good conversation or a Thursday night happy hour is something to look forward to during the week.

3. Saying "NO"to Extra Things is Healthy Too.

  • Being able to say “Thanks for thinking of me but I’m not able to commit to that right now.” is OKAY!! (This might be an additional shift at work, a friend/family gathering, etc.) If achieving a healthy lifestyle is a priority, putting it at the forefront is not selfish, but necessary.

  • My favorite quote by author Emily Ley reads “Even if you can do all the “things”, you can’t do them well”. Saying “no” can be a good thing!

4. A Positive Attitude.

  • A healthy lifestyle will have stumbles- life happens! A positive attitude to transform “I failed” into “I will do better tomorrow” will take you far!
